Dr. Marcus Herndon is the creator of ICEBREAKR, the socially awkward-less board game, with 40+ mini-games that break the ice!  We asked him to share more about what he’s created, why and what he’s bringing to Gulf Coast MakerCon 2024.

GCMCWhy did you create ICEBREAKR ?

MH: I created ICEBREAKR because I wanted to improve modern-day socialization by introducing fun, fast-paced games that build togetherness amongst colleagues, coworkers, and new individuals alike. The ultimate goal is to reduce social anxiety with players, who would reveal fun-facts of themselves upon losing at mini-games. These mini-games spark conversation and connect players through similar experiences and opinions!

By far, the most rewarding part of ICEBREAKR are the fun facts! Learning of the unique stories that people have, and what they think are cool facts in their on life. You can literally see people ask themselves “What’s fun about me?” and to genuinely express themselves in a way that they otherwise would not have” among strangers.

GCMC: What do you hope to bring to MakerCon and what do you hope to take away?

MH: With ICEBREAKR, I hope to bring people closer through mini-games and conversation. I will be selling ICEBREAKR board games and directing others to download the free “ICEBREAKR Socially Awkwardless” app on iOS. What I hope to take away are some connections that can propel ICEBREAKR into the right directions, albeit on the tech side with AR/VR or AI implementation, or scaling the inventory into monopolies and kickstarter campaigns.

GCMC: Where can people learn more?

MH: Learn more of ICEBREAKR, here: marcmade.com/icebreakr  and download the ICEBREAKR App HERE.

And of course, come out to Gulf Coast MakerCon at University Mall on June 8 to check out ICEBREAKR for yourself!
