Some of our Makers are makers of inventions. Among them, Bill Holley, inventor of the Modern Hammer! Bill, who is a member of the Tampa Bay Inventors Council, tells us below about his product and what he hopes to discover by sharing his innovative design at Gulf Coast MakerCon ’24.
I have a utility patent for a better hammer handle. It makes the user rotate the forearm ninety degrees toward the inside of the body, which allows greater flex of the wrist, which promotes greater accuracy and more power. It’s also easier to grip, which can be a biggie for folks who have a bit of arthritis.
It can be gripped between the thumb and the forefinger or between the forefinger and the index finger. I’m making a feminine version of the hammer first, then the one for men. The feminine model is pink, is 11″ long, and has an eight-ounce head. The one for men will be bright blue, 13″ long, and have a 16-ounce head. I’m making a tack hammer for arts and crafts and a claw hammer for everything else. I’m sourcing them from China. I don’t have hammers for sale now, but I should have the first production run soon.
I hope to acquire data about which grip women prefer, which hammer women prefer, which shade of pink they like better, and what women think the hammer is worth.
